Definitions (Source of Energy)
SOURCE OF ENERGY
Energy: The capacity of doing
work is called energy.
Fuel: The things which can
be burnt to produce energy are called fuel.
Primary
source of energy:
those sources of energy, which can be used in the same form as they are found in
nature, are called primary sources of energy.
Secondary
sources of energy:
Those sources of energy, which are derived from primary sources of energy, are
called secondary sources of energy.
Renewable
source of energy:
Those sources of energy which can be obtained continuously and can be used
again and again is called renewable source of energy.
Non-renewable
sources of energy:
Those sources of energy which gets depleted and cannot be used again and again
is called non-renewable sources of energy.
Fossil
Fuel:
The fuel which is obtained from the fossils of dead plant and animals preserved
under the earth crust is called fossil fuel.
Nuclear
reaction:
The reaction in which he nucleus of an atom undergoes a change forming a new
atoms and releasing tremendous amount of energy is called nuclear reaction.
Nuclear
fission reaction:
The type of nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits into two or more
light nuclei with the release of large amount of energy is called nuclear
fission reaction.
Nuclear
fusion reaction:
The type of reaction in which two light nuclei combine or fuses together to
form a heavy and stable nucleus is called nuclear fusion reaction.
Chain reaction: The reaction in which a
particle which starts the reaction is also produced during the reaction to
carry out reaction again and again is called chain reaction.
Nuclear
fuel:
The radioactive element like uranium, polonium etc which are used in nuclear
reactor to produce heat energy is called nuclear fuel.
Hydroelectricity:
The
electricity generated by rotating turbines with the help of kinetic energy of
water is called hydropower.
Biomass: Biomass is any organic
materials that can be converted into energy.
Biogas:
The
gas produced by anaerobic decomposition of animal wastes like dung or plants
wastes in the presence of water is called biogas.
High
Tide:
The rise of ocean level due to the attraction of the moon and the sun is called
high tide.
Wind: Fast moving air is
called wind.
Tidal
energy:
The energy generated from the tides of sea is called tidal energy.
Wind
Energy:
The energy generated from the fast moving air called wind energy.
Geothermal
energy:
The energy which uses the internal heat of the earth is called geothermal
energy.
Solar
energy:
The energy produced from the sun is called solar energy.
Energy
crisis:
The situation in which there is acute scarcity of sources of energy is called
energy crisis.
Alternative
sources of energy:
The sources of energy other than non-renewable sources of energy is called
alternative source of energy.
